Multi-Currency Pricing (MCP)

Multi-Currency Pricing (MCP)

How do I set up Multi-Currency Pricing?

By enabling multi-currency pricing, you can allow your buyers or customers to easily pay in the currency of their choice. Depending on the currencies you enable, the currency on the payment page will be automatically updated according to your buyer's location.

1. Log in to your Payfast account.

2. Navigate to Settings > Multi-currency.

3. Under Multi-Currency Activation, toggle the option to enabled.

4. Next, under Activate Currencies tick the currencies you would like your buyers to be able to pay in.

- You can offer as many currencies as you like. Tick Select All if you wish to offer all available currencies.

Please note: If you have a currency convertor plugin configured on your website, there may be a discrepancy in the prices shown on your website versus the payment total due to varying exchange rates. As such we would not recommend using a currency convertor plugin if you wish to enable multi-currency payments.

How do I refund a foreign currency payment?

The Payfast Merchant Refund feature allows you to refund your customers payment directly via your Payfast Dashboard.

To refund your customer's credit card payment that was paid in a foreign currency, do the following:

1. Log in to your Payfast account.

2. Navigate to Transactions > Transactions History

3. Locate the purchase transaction to be refunded.

4. Under Action, select …> Refund Transaction.

5. On the refund transaction screen, select if the refund type is a full or partial amount of the original transaction amount. The cardholder will receive the settled amount (in ZAR) converted into the currency they paid with.

Note: The foreign currency amount the buyer receives will be determined by the applicable exchange rate at the time of refund.

6. Enter the amount of the refund (If a partial refund was selected).

7. Enter the reason for the refund. This reason will be communicated to your customer via the refund email confirmation.

8. Optional: Select the checkbox to send yourself a copy of the confirmation email.

9. Select Refund Transaction to complete the refund process. A completion status notification will reflect on the screen.

Does Payfast accept payments in dollars, pounds or another currency?

A buyer can make a payment in a foreign currency (not in ZAR) if Multi-Currency Processing have been set-up by the merchant.

The currencies available to pay in on the payment page will depend on which currencies the merchant has chosen to enable. Only Visa and Mastercard payments are available when paying in a foreign currency.

Paying with Payfast is usually free for buyers. In the case of foreign currency payments, the payment total includes our currency conversion charge, as we offer the currency conversion instead of the buyer's card-issuing bank. As such, the buyer won't pay any additional bank conversion fees for the transaction.

To change the payment currency when paying:

1. Simply click on the payment total

2. Choose the desired currency from the list of available currencies

3. Click on the credit payment method and complete the purchase

Please note that MCP currently does not support American Express.
