What is Google Pay?

Google Pay is a fast, simple, and secure digital payment solution that allows buyers to pay for goods and services using the payment method saved to their Google account. Enabling Google Pay as a payment method will offer a simple checkout where buyers can complete transactions within a few clicks.


How to enable Google Pay on the Merchant Dashboard

If you are not auto-enabled for new payment methods, follow these steps to enable Google Pay on your Merchant Dashboard.

1.       Log in to your Merchant Dashboard.
2.       Navigate to Settings and select Payment Methods.
3.        Locate Google Pay and switch the enabling toggle on.


How Google Pay works

Google Pay works on Android devices and via Chrome browsers on desktop. iOS users can also use Google Pay at any merchant enabled for Google Pay, on a website or in the Google Pay app for online purchases.

1.       At checkout, the buyer selects Google Pay as their payment method.
2.       The buyer selects the pre-loaded card they want to use on the mobile device or desktop.
3.       Authorise the transaction using Fingerprint (Touch ID), Face Recognition (Face ID), or device PIN.
4.       Once the payment is processed, it will be reflected in your Payfast account.

What are the fees for Google Pay transactions?

Google Pay transactions are charged the same as Apple Pay and Samsung Pay transactions.
·     A standard 3.2% plus R2.00 ex VAT will be charged per Google Pay transaction.


Where do I view Google Pay transactions and perform refunds?

1.       Log in to your Merchant Dashboard.
2.       Navigate Transactions and select Online Transaction History.
3.       Filter using Payment Type “Google Pay” and all Google Pay transactions will be listed.
4.       Locate the Google Pay transaction of interest and click on the Action menu, select View Transaction or Refund Transaction.
5.       The Refund process will refund to the source.


Prerequisites for Google Pay Integrations

1.       A verified Payfast account and no restrictions on the credit card payment method.
